Day 12 - August 31, 2014

Today's Reading: James 3:13-18 (NIV)

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.  17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Dan's Thoughts:
Nobody ever said they didn't want to be wise.  Nobody tries to be foolish.  Yet somehow, its easy to find ourselves not letting our life reflect the wisdom of the Bible.  Do you believe this book is real?  Do you believe it gives you a clear path (Proverbs 3:5-6) if you trust it?  Do you believe it is the instruction manual for how to overcome sin (Psalm 119:9-11) and temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)?  If the answer is yes, why don't we live like it more often?

Questions For Reflection:
1.  Which verse stuck out to me the most?  Why?
2.  What is God telling me through this passage?
3.  What transformation in my heart needs to take place because of what this passage means?
